When a sudden, detrimental war breaks out and wipes out almost all of humanity, Tess and her ill sister Beth are left homeless and possibly orphans. Scrambling for survival, they depend on each other and what's left around them but they soon realize that there's more out there than scraps. A group of what they first thought to be survivors are out there searching, lurking, waiting and most alarming, murdering anyone they find. Tess and Beth are now torn between the decision to join the group that wiped everyone out or hide, but Tess soon learns that her and Beth are the reason the war started in the first place and that there's more to her sister's sickness than she ever imagined.
