"Cas, it's not going to break." Dean, just to prove it, stomps once, twice, three times against the ice. He even slams both feet down against it just for good measure, laughing when his foot slips and he crashes to the ice. "Dean!" Cas yelps, tears welling in his eyes and hands reaching for Dean. "Cas, I'm fine," Dean assures, moving to stand, eyes locked on Cas. Then the ice breaks, and Dean falls through. The last thing he sees is Cas' horrified face, helpless to stop him from falling before the cold hits him, stabbing the air from his lungs with fingers like knives and stealing every thought in his brain. He was pulled from the water that day, but later, he would remember the exhilaration of the ride and the joy of the laughter and the fear of the fall and the cold of the water, and he would think that that's what loving Cas has always felt like. A constant back and forth of laughter and cold, of warmth and sickness, of love and hate. Loving Cas has never been easy, but falling for him has always been the easiest thing in the world.

Dean has been depressed for quite a while now. one day he falls asleep, only to find himself trapped in a dream world, and unable to wake up. sam, cas, and Charlie must go on a journey through deans nightmares and memories in order to rescue dean, before the god Morpheus can get his hands on his new favourite play toy. •trigger warning for this fic-may contain upsetting material upset cas/oblivious dean angsty destiel slow burn(kind of) canonverse(kind of) SPOILER- Charlie is alive in this fic yay! Dean wasn't exactly sure how he'd ended up here. Three hours earlier, his evening had been perfectly ordinary. No bars, no walls, no furious angels, certainly no horny douchebags. Okay, maybe one horny douchebag. But that had been Dean himself, so that was fine. Yeah, so, it had been one of those evenings. When it was just too much, that feeling inside him, that nagging, longing, craving of something (someone) he didn't dare put a name to. It had been there for a very long time now, only getting stronger over the years the more Dean tried to push it down. And try to push it down, he did. Dean needed distraction. And he knew just where to find it. ~oOo~oOo~oOo~ Or our typical Dean drags Cas to a bar for distraction, gets jealous and things happen.

Dean gets a call about Bobby being in an accident, and breaking his leg. He's cleared from the hospital, but can't drive, and doesn't know anyone who can pick him up except his old friend Rufus, who's in another state, and Ellen, his wife, who's off with her daughter on a girls trip. And Dean of course. The problem? He has to leave Cas at the apartment, and the hospital is a five hour drive away. But Cas can be without him for a day right? -------- This story is part one of a series called "Leading Into Life". I highly suggest reading "Normality" before this. It'll probably make way more sense.

After the fall Cas is human and living with Sam and Dean in the bunker. A lot has changed but the way he feels about Dean hasn't. His want to protect Dean hasn't, even if it's only nightmares he can fight for him now. so this was inspired by a tweet from. @/fallenatic841. they had a really interesting idea and this started forming in my head. thank you for catching my imagination
