The Youth Of Rivals (GaiKaka)

After Rin dies, Kakashi is left feeling desperate, breaking his promise to Obito that he'd protect her. Kakashi doesn't talk to anyone about his pain... He just can't bring himself to.

There were people who looked at Kakashi as if he was a monster for killing his teammate, he could sense everyone watching as he walked passed, despite everyone who stood away from Kakashi, there was always one who didn't, Might Gai.

Kakashi was thankful for the friend, he knew he didn't deserve, so even then, he shielded himself from Gai, telling himself that it was better this way, even though it obviously wasn't.

Gai would stop at nothing to make Kakashi feel welcome, and like he was wanted, he didn't care if Kakashi was cold or bitter towards him, he just wanted to be his friend, his rival.

Years passed by like this, Sarutobi Hiruzen (The Third) acquitted Kakashi from being in the ANBU and made it so that he could be a normal person, even though Gai and Kakashi have two very different lives, Gai still makes time for him, because he's deeply in love with his rival.
