Last year I wrote this for my Honors Literature course. During our poetry unit, we read the Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock along with many different poems. We were told to pick one and write a story of what events would occur afterwards or what happened before the poem or any other loose adaption of the poem. I got a 100 on this assignment. Many writers have pondered where T. S. Eliot got the idea for the Love Song and who exactly J. Alfred Prufrock was. Some have even stated that Alfred is an alter ego to Eliot or some hidden side of himself he never showed. I took that into perspective. In this story, our main character, T. S. Eliot, fights against his depression and must make a decision between life and death, love and hate, sadness and happiness. I suggest reading the original poem before reading this one, so you can see the references to his poetic style.

You can't make me happy. Those were the exact same words Louis had said over five years ago. Harry could literally see his heart dropping and breaking on the ground. "I can't keep doing this," he said as he stopped and glanced back at me. "You can't keep running either," I said loudly. That made him turn and face me fully. "Me? I'm the one always running? What about you? You've ran how many times in the past? You've let everyone else control our relationship. Everyone but me!" "You told me to leave you alone," I yelled. "You said you didn't want any of this anymore. You left the fucking country! You went and never even considered what that would do to me!" "I lied too Louis! You hurt me and I wanted to hurt you back!" he yelled. "Maybe a friendship is out of the question. Our relationship is beyond repair. All we do is lie to each other." He turned to walk out again and he opened the door. I rushed to him and reached for his arm. "Harry don't go please." I had never stopped him from leaving before. This time my heart wouldn't let me let him go. "You said you cared and you missed me too." I spoke in a low voice and used his own words against him. A low thing to do but I needed him to understand how much I was hurting. Note: this is a story of pure fiction. Once upon a time, there was a beautiful girl who was unable to see her own worth. She found beauty in the simple things, like roses, kind smiles, good music, and a deep conversation. But she was not simple, so she was unable to see anything worth while about herself. This girl was beaten down by the cruelties of this world, but then she meets him, her prince charming. But can even he convince her of her true beauty? Or will she ruin any good that comes into both his and her lives forever? ----- This is a story about a girl named Jane who is forced to be someone she is not. I wrote this story because I feel like we all have to conform to be how society wants us to be, when that's not who we really are, sometime in our lives. But we all have an escape. Sometimes it's through music, reading, friends, or whatever. Jane's escape comes through a boy named Mystery who helps her grow and flourish who she really is.
