Lody and her family are caught in not only a hurricane but a conspiracy in the 1800s New York. They live in the slums and have very little money. Lody's mother works as a servant for New York's wealthier residents while Lody quit school to help out by walking dogs and babysitting. Their father is somewhere out on the sea. Lody doesn't know what to think of the constant town meetings or the strange looking people wandering around town. And what about that handsome Italian boy she keeps running into? With her two brothers helping, too, the family gets by until the storm. What will happen when the wind changes and the storm surge comes, and you don't know who to trust?
