" Okay guys. Today a new player's gonna join our team for the rest of the season. It's a very special and very talented person and I hope you'll all include Robyn and make her part of the team. "
The boys, usually so loud, all froze at the mention of the word "her".
"I'm sorry, coach. " said Darren. " I think I misheard you. Did you mean him? I'm not exactly sure Robyn would like to be treated as a girl. "
A few chuckles could be heard amongst the team. While the guys were all starting to make guesses about the new recruit, I examined carefully the Coach's face from my corner of the room. His blue eyes seemed pretty angry to me, but the slight curve of his mouth betrayed a hint of amusement.
" Guys, guys, guys! " shouted Coach Ron. "You heard me right Darren. Robyn's a She. Guys, I'd like you to meet Robbie, and just like you said my little Darren, Robyn wouldn't like to be treated as a girl. "
A shocked silence followed our Coach revelation. I could clearly see that most of the guys here were very surprised and even slightly suspicious. Some of them even looked angry. I, on the hand, couldn't wait to meet the girl all this fuss was about.
And just before any of my comrades could close their fish open mouth long enough to protest, the doors of the changing room swung open revealing the one and only person who was responsible for all this mess.
" Hello guuyyys. Robbie's in the place. Move your asses and make some space for me to put my stuff. Oh. And don't you dare try to peek while I'm changing or your balls will have to deal with MY curve balls. "
17 pair of eyes followed the tall blonde as she made her way confidently through the room until she found the only free spot in the room which of course, had to be next to me. " Great! " I thought. " I'll be stuck with the mentor role for this youngster. I won't be the one to dry her tears when she comes back to the bench crying after a strike out. "
