The dragon growled, revealing a set of gleaming teeth. The leaking gash on her wing was forgotten as she fixed her eyes on the girl before her, warning her to not take a second step. Kiara raised her hand to calm the purple dragon, her heart pounding in her chest. Every impulse screamed at her to back away but she stood firm, determined to help the dragon who had helped her. The beast's big blue eyes briefly flickered from the girl to her extended palm. Her muscles tensed. Her growl intensified. Yet Kiara refused to leave.

Long before she had been sucked into a world of dragons, Kiara was home to a spirit of adventure and curiosity. Bending the rules was second nature to her, questioning them was first. Despite this, she had somehow lived a quiet life in her sixteen years of existence. Her rebellious side was a hidden quality that surfaced now and then but never really made a dent. That was until the one school camping trip that changed her life forever.

This is a fanfic that I'm writing out of my love for How To Train Your Dragon. My story occurs loosely around the Netflix series (Dragons: Race to the Edge) so any characters from that series do not belong to me. Don't worry if you haven't seen it - you won't need to have watched it to understand the plot.

You have likely seen it all before, Hiccup gets chosen to kill the Monstrous Nightmare but instead of staying to try and prove to his village dragons aren't the monsters they think they are, he leaves. Abandons the world he knows for a world of possibility, a world where he can be him, be free. What if he is one day discovered by a group of dragon riders and chose to join them as they had adventure after adventure. It would be a good life but of course it would never stay so happy, things would change sometimes for the better sometimes for worse. Old scars would surface, old lives reappear and new faces vanish, how would this affect him. Well shall we find out? I don't own the How To Train Your Dragon franchise of course and this is all done for fun. You know the legal stuff. I also don't own the image, I got it off of google as one could expect. When Hiccup is chosen to kill the Monstrous Nightmare Astrid helps him run away. Two years later when Hiccup doesn't write back to Astrid and her letters start coming back to her she takes it upon herself to find him. What will happen when it Hiccup finds a new group of friends? Or when Astrid comes upon a new dragon and finds a family to call her own? What happens when a new enemy comes? Hiccup and Astrid's loyalty to their friends and tribes will be tested. As well as their friendship, relationship and loyalty to each other will be at risk. Since this is also a Hiccstrid vs Merricup please no fighting in the comments.
