Trong tiếng Urdu, "Tạm biệt" có nghĩa là "Khuda hafiz".
  "Khuda" là Thượng đế của người Ba Tư, còn "Hafiz" bắt nguồn từ hữ "Hifiz" trong tiếng Ả Rập, có nghĩa là "bảo vệ". Cho nên câu nói này được hiểu là "Chúa sẽ phù hộ bạn". Nó được sử dụng phổ biến trong cộng đồng người theo và không theo đạo Hồi. Tại vùng Tây Bắc Pakistan, được biệt là hai bên đèo Khyber gần Afghanistan, khi tạm biệt hoặc biết sẽ không bao giờ gặp lại nhau nữa, người ta sẽ nói: "Khuda hafiz - Chúa sẽ phù hộ bạn!".
