The sky was but a hole that only the rich could look through. The sea was in a frame. A wall that was always there but never forgotten. Few would wish to see it and those who did, well they were considered foolish. It would bring tears and dreams, two things that would kill us. No one expected me to volunteer and no one expected me to return. I raised the flag and no one stopped me. Eyes diverted and breathing slowed. The stage, it was just an obstacle- the first of many. I had prepared and my note cards were folded neatly inside my jacket. But the stage had taken the thoughts- it had left me speechless as I no longer had the papers. Pockets were empty and so was my brain. It felt as if I were screaming, but my mouth was shut and voice was quiet. Stuttering over my words and each sentence was choppy. Finally the curtain shut and the door opened, I was going to be free.
