Abigail Jenkins is a young African woman from Missouri in the early 1890's. She's caught wind of the Oklahoma Land Rush and now she's set her mind on getting a chunk of land for herself. She's tired of the high minded white people from her old town and she wants to take charge of her own life. She is well aware of all the risks she may face by going alone into unknown territory, but she's willing to take that chance to have a new start on life. Derek Greyson, on the other hand, is a man simply wanting a change in scenery. After his parents died, he'd been taking care of his little sister. But now that she's married, he's turned his attention away from his home in Texas, and to the Land Rush in Oklahoma. He finds himself in the dust ridden land with thousands of others, greedy for a piece of the land. What he didn't expect, however, was to meet a lively little African woman with a sharp tongue, deep chocolate eyes and a mountain load of prejudices against white men due to the murder of her little sister. What will he do when he finds himself falling for her, along with all of her emotional demons? And for Abigail, what will she do when the stranger with icy blue eyes and a charming smile decides to break all social norms just to be with her?

The land they crossed was beautiful, the land was not flat but sloped into valleys and hills peppered with trees that gave shade and small streams, as they moved Sam spoke to him about the dry season, details of the land and where water could be found, and anything she thought would interest the man. Running out of things to say she turned to him and asked, " any questions?" " not regarding the land, would you mind answering a few personal ones?" Bryan asked Sam shook her head, "yes, I mind, I don't particularly like it, no offense." "None taken, just curious to know why you want to be mistaken for a boy." Sam reigned in her horse, and waited until he did the same. She pulled one leg out of the stirrup and placed it over the horn where she rested her elbow on her knee and placed her face on her hand, "think about this," she said nudging her horse so that she almost touched the man, "would we be riding here, like this, alone, if I looked like Cecile? All grace and delicacy?" Sam's eyebrows rose and an impish smile spread on her face as she watched Bryan's face change as her words sunk, and he pulled back. I wrote this story in the nineties, for my mother who was an avid romance reader and Barbara Cartland follower, she had been diagnosed with lung cancer and there wasn't much to do. Since we lived far apart I wrote this and other stories to entertain her and show my love. She was a brave woman who ventured from her motherland, Germany and married a man from Peru which language she did not even speak. I based most of my stories in her circumstances of not fitting in, she went to a country where she knew no one, and there she stayed for the love of one man.
Grace (BWWM) by Sarah579

"I'm going to take care of you and the kids, Grace." Oh. I just...I get this feeling within me that just warms me throughout. "You already are, Joe." "I know, but I mean in a different way. I've been doing that as an outsider. I'd like to be a part of your family." "Joseph...you've been a part of our family for years. We've never thought of you in any other way." It's the truth. His eyebrows raise and he stares at me for a while. Then he nods. I smile gently and he kisses my cheek again then gives me a smoldering look. "Thank you." He brings one of my hands to his lips, pressing a kiss to it, his eyes still fixed on mine. My breath catches with the intensity there. "I love you, Grace." The sincerity in his words are as clear as day. All at once, I feel so incredibly grateful to have him in my life and I find tears springing up. His gaze softens as he sees them. Ordinarily I would try to hide this obvious sign of vulnerability, but I don't. There's no reason to with him. "I love you too." He smiles gently and then turns his head towards my hand still on his face, pressing a tender kiss to my palm. ~~~ This is an age gap interracial (bwwm) Christian romance that involves Joe, a widower, and Grace, a widow of six years and family friend. Joe has just lost his wife and Grace is there for him as he works through a grief that she is unfortunately familiar with. As the years go by and he continues to heal, their friendship develops into something more.

** Picks up where The Edge of Hell (Mitchell Brothers Series Book One) left off** If there's one thing Declan Mitchell learned from watching his mama almost die from the heartbreak of losing his daddy to a war nineteen years ago, it was that a great and powerful love delivered an equally devastating heartbreak and suffering-the kind he had every intention of avoiding like the bubonic plague. And until traveling west to Idaho Territory and coming face to face with the mismatch-eyed, auburn-haired beauty, Wren McCrawdon, he believed he might succeed in carrying out his plans of never marrying. Molded by her traumatic journey west when she was twelve, twenty-four-year-old, accident-prone Wren McCrawdon's life on her family's ranch in Falcon Ridge, Idaho, is full of back-breaking work, beginning as dawn's first rays peek across the mountains and ending long after the sun sets when she can barely drag her weary bones up the stairs to her bedroom. But from the morning Declan Mitchell and his family arrive, her miserable existence becomes more bearable until tragedy strikes when all she sees are the harsh realities of loss and suffering. Concerned for Wren's safety and remembering how bitter the edge of misery was after his daddy died-Declan discovers he's willing to do anything he can to take it away from her... even if it means a marriage of convenience is the only suitable solution. There are only two problems: first, it's already apparent he's following in his mama's footsteps toward eventual heartbreak, and second he somehow has to convince Wren to agree.
