I live in a world where you could buy bottled emotions. It was a fundamental breakthrough.  But then people depended on it like a drug, soon forgetting what it's like to really feel. So the government decided to ban it. 
Society fell apart. Wars sprung up in every country, ultimately leading to the third world war. Millions died while thousands went into hiding ultimately going insane without the bottled substance. Except me. 
I was the one of the few who believed that feelings are something special to that person, not something you can spike a drink with.  
I never felt the need to save everyone before, but things change as easily as the ticking clock.
