After his adventure in Kalos and when Clemont and Bonnie left, Ash and Serena both decide that they want to go to Alola, Ash wants to learn more about battles, while Serena is more into Alola contests. The contests in Alola are very different then the ones from Kalos. That's why Serena will attend the same school, but in the contest way.
