Most children raised in and out of foster homes end up working at low-life places their whole life, but Brooke refused to let her situation and how much she hated her life dictate her future and how she could, and would, one day be happy. She got into Stanford, and fought hard to get on the Baseball team. Everyone was against it. Girls should be on Softball. So when she goes to tryout for the Yankees, the whole team is against it.
