After being dumped by Mamoru, Usagi makes a deal with Shang Tsung to make a wish that she wasn't Princess Serenity and never met Prince Endymion from the previous life, so he grants her wish and changes the timeline where she could never fall in love and be killed before becoming Sailor Moon.
