"Thomas grab my hand!" I screamed over the commotion to my young brother. The plane was going down. "ATTENTION EVERYONE, PLEASE STAY CALM" Shouted the pilot from the cockpit. The electronics of the plane had shut down suddenly resulting in free fall. Everyone continued screaming as if the man had never spoken. "Delilah, are we going to be okay?" His small voice begged for a happy ending. I knew the truth, we would not be okay. I risked a peak out the window, a dumb decision, I could see land advancing fast. I couldn't tell him the truth, he would be devastated. "Yeah Tommy, we will be just fine. We just need to make a quick pit stop here." I knew my lie sucked but he was young enough to believe it. "You promise?" His big blue eyes burned into me. I had to protect him from the truth, it would be okay. I nodded, not trusting myself to speak. All around us was chaos, passengers screaming and family's crying in embraces. I held onto Thomas tight but remained calm, not wanting to scare him any more. I could tell we were getting closer to land. My ears popped with the drastic altitude changes and I winced. I pulled Thomas into my arms, holding him tight to me. I wanted him to feel safe. "It's okay Delilah, you promised." It felt like someone had just stabbed me in the heart and I choked back a sob. Nodding once again as I pulled him closer. It was getting harder and harder to breath with the fast descent. I soon found myself gasping for air as black spots clouded my vision. Thomas was sound in my lap and I knew he had passed out. I struggled for air, clinging to Thomas's near lifeless form. It all became too much. The desire to close my eyes too strong. And I succumbed. And everything went black. . . . . . It all ended with a ball of fire and a loud scream. Little did they know, the end was actually the beginning. Warning this book may deal with some rough topics, mostly depression, and may get a wee bit graphic at times.

{Idea from Maximum Ride, but I've changed a whole bunch of stuff, and the storyline works differently} The world is ending, and 99% of the Earth’s population may die! There’s only one person that can stop it. Jannice is 16 and just a normal girl. 98% normal. The other 2% is avian. She's grown up as a hostage at a lab in Colorado where geneticists have experimented on her and her 6 friends. But now that they've escaped, there's one easy task. Just one. Then they're free. Jannice just has to save the world. Her righthand man Liam was created to support her, and Lily was created to be her guide. And Harry, Niall, Louis, and Zayn? They were created to help. But everything's going wrong. They keep getting followed, everyone seems to be an Extenguisher, the flock splits, and Lily has predicted Liam's death! And Niall's blindness isn't helping either. Even with newfound powers, how can 7 fugitives save the planet? And are two romances blooming? Will the flock save the world, stop the 99% plan, and be free forever; or will they be retired? ========== I've been doing everything I can to keep the flock safe-how could I be on THEIR side?! A soft knock cam on the door. "Jannice, you OK?" came Liam's voice. Tear ran down my face and I didn't answer. "I'm coming in" I heard the door open. "NO!" I cried, but he ignored it and sat on the bed. "What's up?" he asked, staring at me as I lay at his feet. I knew I could tell him, if anyone. "I saw me in the mirror...as an Extenguisher, but when I felt my skin, it was just skin. Liam?" "HM?" he stroked my wet hair soothingly. "If...if I ever went bad, promise me youll protect he flock...from me" His eyes grew. "I-I promise..." "Thank you" my voice cracked. "And you'll be the leader?" "Sure" his face looked concerned. "I just can't see it" I took a deep breath. "Me neither, but whatever happens" he arose and knelt down beside me. "We'll be fine" he pecked my forehead and walked out.
