Damaged Goods, Waiting to be Broken - Chapter One

The first chapter of my completed full length character driven horror/thriller.

Twisted tales and whispered lies fill the lines of ‘Damaged Goods, Waiting to be Broken’. The story of Penn Canaan, a strong and ambitious Art Student and promising Athlete, but, also a fractured, broken and flawed young man.

Having fled the abusive hands of his Father at sixteen Penn arrived in LA to find his mother, a famous Novelist and all around press magnet, so consumed within her own work that she had little time to reconnect and bond with her son. For three years Penn lived the attention seeking life, any trust-fund baby would be proud of. From hosting out of control, drug and alcohol fueled parties, to bullying the ‘lesser’ class men at school, Penn Canaan became any parents worst nightmare.

Three years on, the reader finds Penn at a more settled stage of his life, regretting the mistakes he has made, and no longer seeking attention, in fact, he now shies away from it as much as possible. That is until a car accident involving both himself and his mother thrusts him into the limelight and both the eyes of the public and the press. Terrified that this new attention might reestablish some unfinished business his Father may have with him Penn along with his long term girlfriend Sadie Madison, attempts to continue living in secrecy and seclusion.

It is not long, however, until Penn’s own fears may have been realized as mysterious phone calls and offering begin to pile up surrounding Penn and his loved ones. As the story of the Canaan stalker spins more and more terrifyingly out of control the safety of Penn, Sadie, and their friends is placed upon the shoulders of new to the job Police Officer Stevens. But, little does she know that she has not only just landed her first case, but, also the biggest case of the last decade, drawing the press’s attention with every twist and becoming more and more serious by the minute. Stevens knows she must solve the case of the y
