Benedict Huntley's reign has ended. The Essence Machine is no more. And the Elemental families have flourished. It appears all is well.

But with a single telegram, lives are upended and the quiet of the years since Huntley's fall is once again disrupted. The Elementals are suddenly thrust into a world of danger once again. None too surprisingly, Peter and Charlotte Haywood, children of Emma Haywood and Christopher Wellington, find themselves caught up in the whirlwind. And so too, it seems, is the reclusive Duke of Tonbridge...who hides secrets of his own.

And soon enough, the promise of a war is brewing on the horizon, one that will not only pull the Elementals into, but the rest of the world. The changes it brings are unfathomable.
