Lost Soul

"Do you ever wonder what it's like to be.....dead?" he asked subtly. She still sat, gazing in amazement at how he sees her. Debating the truth, she caved, finally telling her brother what happened.

"No," she whispered "but I'm living it."

Eugene stood, meters from Emmalyse. He dropped the pale of water immediately before calling everyone over. "How?" he whispered towards the frail girl.

"Spirits are under the ground. They are meant to be at rest with the world. How are you here? You do not belong!" Penny's words echoed, and a beating pain in Emmalyse's chest began. "Leave, demon! I will tend to the family, I will be the adult!" Her eyes spoke meaning, and Emmalyse walked away in shame.
