Words that I didn’t even know I knew began to bubble from my chest like a mantra, over and over again as I carefully cradled Danny to me. The scarf that he was wearing, the same color as his eyes, was moved aside to expose pale flesh. I pressed a kiss to it, and Danny whimpered.
“Kieran! What are you doing!?” My father’s voice. The alpha. I looked up, slightly impatient, as he and a few of the other pack leaders quickly approached. It broke the mantra, but not for long. Nothing would stop me from doing this, not even my own blood. Especially when there was a tinge of fear in my leader’s voice.
