Preston is a young earl-to-be in Victorian England, 1879, who has an interesting life in the eyes of others yet he believes it to be boring. As a child he would occupy his time by studying and would have fun by prancing around the mansion. That was until he turned six and his mother fell ill to a strange illness and died not long after his younger brother's second birthday. His father grew distant for an unknown reason, and abandoned the two boys (Preston and his younger brother, Byron) when they were at an early age and needed their father most. Byron was young at the time and remained unphased by their mother's death, but unfortunately Preston cannot say the same for himself. He was always lacking of his parent's love and his father did nothing to change that, so he has been trying to change it himself by taking comfort in complete strangers.
