After a falling out with his family, Dean Winchester decided to get away from everyone in his hometown by joining the army. He felt like he belonged, unlike in the small and suffocating town.
To keep up the family tradition, Castiel Novak joins the army despite his unwillingness. It was a blessing and a curse: he was getting away from his annoying family but he was doing it in a way he hated.
They were both on the same mission, the one that went AWOL and risked the lives of all 23 men and women. The mission that was kept secret, with only two survivors.
