You were ten when it had happened. You lived with The Greenes on the farm with your mother. She passed, and they kept her in the barn. A boy shows up and you haven't seen anyone your age in months. Naturally the two of you became friends. You two were bestfriends, you helped Carl with the deaths of Shane, and Lori. He helped you too.  You had confessed everything to eachother... and maybe you two were destined for more.
