Melody, the heir to the Hawk Kingdom throne, Lilith, the new queen. Both have just lost their mother in a serious battle between the poisonous rats and the giant hawks. As the new queen, Lilith has responsibilities, but Melody has a gift that she got from her mother. A gift to connect with the spirits. She is told to go on a journey to find her father, the leader of the Renaissance. They are to give him news of the rat invasion and the loss of his love for if they don't, their kingdom will fall into a terrible darkness that no one can save. Together, Lilith and Melody go alone to find their father and to save their home.

The law of the wasteland is that all females must be wed at the age 18. Acacia loves no one other than her adoptive father because in the wasteland most people don't love at all and think of themselves to be a curse. Then, one day at school he gets an invitation from Cassiopeia's School for the Gifted. Sure he's heard of it, but only in rumors. The school is just for magical creatures to learn more about themselves and their history. It was made over three hundred years ago and still run by a fairy named Cassiopea and her daughter Cassia. Arion is excited to go because his parents refuse to teach him anything about other magical creatures other than dark magic. They believe it is irrelevant for him to know because they think he will take over the world one day. And why should a leader know anything about his subjects? Arion convinces his parents that if he goes to the school he can do recon on the other magical people so he can learn about them and make it easier for him to take over. With no friends, no siblings, and a very negative outlook on life, he heads to Cassiopeia's School for the Gifted.
