Zander Whitman, Avian Giotto and Reese Cooper are childhood friends. While Zander has always been attracted to the vivacious and beautiful Reese, he is completely unaware of the quiet Avian's love for him.
Zander's father decides to move to England with his family to take up a new job. Before leaving, Zander makes Reese promise to write to him via e-mail. But Reese soon becomes occupied with other things, so it's the loyal Avian who writes to Zander with Reese's name to help Reese keep her promise. Zander and Avian have many things in common, and their e-mails bring them close to each other. A decade and a half later, Zander returns to America for a short vacation. By now, he's in love with the person he has been writing to, and believes he can recognize them at first sight.
When the three of them finally meet, Zander, to Avian's disappointment, completely ignores him and is besotted with Reese, who is as vivacious as ever. However, during the two weeks of his vacation, he cannot help but notice that the real Reese is completely different from the Reese he knew from the e-mails. He also starts to like Avian, without realizing he is the one he is really in love with.
He returns to London, where Avian coincidentally arrives for an interview, and there he discovers that Avian was the one who had been writing to him all those years.
At that moment they knew they were in for the longest and most difficult trail of their lives.
