I don't know if I died or not, but the moment I regained my consciousness, I was already standing on a field full of grass and surrounded by trees. "W-what is that...?" Most fairytales start with Once upon a time... and well, this one too, although this might not seem like your typical fairytale... So, once upon a time there lived a young girl in a big kingdom. Well, she didn't actually live in the kingdom, but on an island by the kingdom. This island was more like a prison where all people were banned who were a threat to the kingdom. This girl isn't one of them, but she's the daughter of one of those people. She grew up imprisoned on that island with her friends, Jay, Caros and Evie and honestly, they didn't think it was too bad. But that could also be because they didn't know any better. They'd watch tv and see Auradon, the place where princes and princesses grew up, where heroes were living their best lives, where kids were happily playing in the sun, where people had proper education and had jobs that actually mattered. But for as far as Mal and her friends cared, life on the Isle was good enough for them and they were just going with it, until one day everything changed. They got invited to Auradon by soon to be king Benjamin. It was difficult to change into that lifestyle, but the four vk's hadn't even really come to Auradon to do that. They had been commissioned by their parents to find Fairy Godmother's wand and free the Isle of the Lost, so they could take over the kingdom. They had a plan to steal that wand during the coronation of prince Ben, but during the time in between arriving in Auradon and the coronation, Mal found herself falling in love with the prince. Not only did she fall in love with him, the four vk's fell in love with the kingdom and realized that living there wasn't such a bad idea. Maleficent on the other hand didn't let go that easily and tried to fight them, but together they defeated her and got her turned into a tiny green lizard. And so it all ended well, you'd say. But this was not the end of the story, no, there's much more to come...

Where he confined himself to ruling from the shadows, just like his father. That was the year where winter did not leave. The winds grew stronger, bringing more and more bitter cold air with them. The kingdom grew weak. There was little food and the people were starting to lose hope. Then, one day a letter arrived at every home in the kingdom: there was to be a ball held at the palace. Everyone was invited, and everyone went. The time spent in the palace was grand. That was until one of the guests went missing. A young woman was escorted from the ballroom and was never seen again. Spring returned for a short time, and then winter crashed back down upon the land. And another ball was held. People were skeptical and did not want to attend, but they had no choice. Yet another guest went missing, another woman. The parties continued annually. Everyone in the kingdom was forced to go and every year, another person was escorted away. Most years it was a woman, one year it was a man. It has been six years since the beginning and winter is coming, after yet another short spring. It is time for another masquerade.
