Star Wars: A prequel redux part 1

Like most fans, I immediately imagined what the prequel stories would be when they were first announced. This fanfic is a mash up of what I originally envisioned infused with character names and places from the stories we were given. It does away with certain elements like prophecies and certain rules the bad guys adhere to, but keeps familiar faces and locations in tact. This story is my version of Episode 1.

The Jedi, elite warriors of the Republic, are only used when local law enforcement needs special back up to handle the more severe crimes. On the planet Corellia, a squad of Jedi led by squad leader Obi Wan Kenobi and Master Commander Yoda quickly find themselves in a situation more troublesome than originally thought. When death for Obi Wan seems imminent, he is rescued by a pair of local youth street hustlers, Anakin Skywalker and Owen Lars. Obi Wan feels gratitude for the boy and after sensing the Force is strong with him, offers to train him as a Jedi. Once Anakin is assured his girlfriend can go along, he is all too eager to take Obi Wan's offer. Upon Obi Wan's insistence, Yoda finally agrees to excuse Obi Wan from the squad in order to catch his new found friend up to speed in the ways of the Jedi. Obi Wan and his new learner are given what seems to be a rather easy, mundane task to focus on while they train, but the deeper they get, the more sinister things become.

Meanwhile, on Corusant, the planet at the center of the Republic, Anakin's girlfriend, Padme, finds herself getting deeper and deeper into a type of life she may not be able to escape. Afraid of costing Anakin his position, she tries other avenues to free herself of her bonds, but nothing seems to work. Her only solution may be death. Whether it's hers or theirs depends on how deep she is willing to go for freedom.
