Katniss is homeless. Ever since her family has died, she has struggled to find a job and a way to get money. She doesn't even have relatives. One of her family's old friends, Haymitch, also happens to be a principal at the public school in district twelve. He said he can enroll her for free. Katniss accepts. This way, she can get at least a meal a day, and learn some survival skills. She has never been good at making friends, so she just kind of puts her head down and doesn't talk to anyone.
