As a child, Cassandra Snare studied the ancient art of Alchemy with her widowed mother and twin brother, Mason Snare. When their mother mysteriously disappears, they set out to train and become State Alchemists. They then encounter the Fullmetal Alchemist, Edward Elric, and his brother Alphonse in a duel with Alchemy. They convince the twins to make a deal with them. If they help destroy the new generation of homunculi and protect the Philosophers Stone with them, they will help get information about their missing mother. Convinced that the task would be simple, the foursome set out with the Snare's Chimera, Assassin.
