Broken Light

"Liberty," the green-haired man before me spoke intensely. We had been in a fight for the past few days that had now simmered down from an all out screaming match to a more intense and personal negotiation. I was shocked by the use of my real name. No one had called me that in almost a year, not even him. "You have to listen to me and not just walk away from this." He asserted. "This isn't just about me, it's about you and the integrity of the whole organization. Should anything happen to me this operation is going to be in your hands." He explained for about the hundredth time.

"Look! I'm looking out for you because you clearly won't do it for yourself." I screamed at him and he glared down at me. My partner in crime for so many years stared down at me harshly and expectantly. "I just don't want anything to happen to you. I wouldn't be able to live with myself."

"Doll," He said in a tone that was simultaneously sarcastic yet endearing. "Don't worry about me. Just promise me you'll stay secret. Promise me you'll stay hidden so I don't have to worry about you, because trust me, I will."
