Almost 200 years after Karata and Jan first came from the Old World, the Jagged Lightning civilization has flourished. Now different city-camps spread across the desert, called colonies, they are individually ruled by an elected leader. The Queen, who is a direct descendant of Karata and Jan, rules over the whole nation.
R'zya has dreamed of being a Wyvern-Rider, or Wyri (why-rye) ever since she saw a troop land in her colony. Being top of the class, its no surprise to her that she was picked for initiation.
But the Initiation is much more arduous than she expected.
Crushing disappointments and a merciless bully meet her at the Wyvern Colony. Will she be able to deal with the strict training regiment along with complicated new drama?
She must persevere though, because something huge and dark is rising . . . Something that will rumble the earth and blacken the skies with wyvern blood . . .
