At the half- moon visit to the Moonstone, the medicine cats of all the Clans got the same message. They agreed to meet at sunhigh in three dawns time with their leaders to discuss the prophesized cat.

Shine is an ordinary kittypet. She sleeps in her nest next to the door, eats the hard pebbles they leave her, and drinks the sharp tasting water in the shiny bowl. But she dreams of the woods, of the mice racing across the ground, the thrill of the hunt. She takes off into the woods one day, simply to hunt a mouse or two, and then she meets someone who changes her life.
