Tranquility - the quality or state of being tranquil; calmness; peacefulness; quiet; serenity.

I crept out of the room, unsure of what to do. I was a bit discombobulated after the events of the following night. A chill shuttered through my body as I realized there was something standing on the stares. I dove for the bathroom, managing to get in safely in. I slammed the door shut with my feet, trying to force that-that thing out. 

I let out a grateful sigh of relief when the door shut behind me and I managed to lock it. But I knew that if I made it out of my house alive, it wouldn't be the end. I'd have to fight this fight until I died.

Winter Song has two main fears: thunderstorms and the dark. Only fitting that the zombies would attack on a stormy night. Her parents are dead, she's alone now. She has two choices: fight for her life and revenge on the monsters, or give up, let herself be taken by the disease. 

She's chosen to fight. And she'll do it for the rest of her life if she must. She refuses to fear the monsters hiding under her bed any longer.

When a zombie apocalypse hits the world on its National Thanksgiving, in less than 24 hours, villages, cities, towns, entire countries are wiped out. Gone away into the dust, to never be seen. Nah, they all emerge as mindless angry creatures that would destroy anything in it's path to get a drop of your blood. Zombies. Not just the regular zombies you see in TV. Not the slowpokes, dumb, crazied flesh-eating monsters. No, these zombies can see, smell, run, climb, they can imitate and God help us they understand and not simply imitate. What happens when these zombies begin to gain intelligence? Every living thing evolves and if it doesn't; it's not worthy of being called 'living'. So when the remaining of humanity remains unmoving, stagnant but the zombies keep growing in mass, intelligence, strength; living. Living on the bare minimum, working your back, seeing loved ones day every single day, hearing screams of help from all around you but knowing how you couldn't do anything. This is a world where surviving wasn't... surviving. Living hurts. This is a world where even horror die-hard fans would rather not be in. For you to live, you have to be insane. And thankfully for one of our characters, they've gone insane.

Weeks pass and the streets become deserted with the exception of the red eyed zombies that wandered around. One night she notices a swiftly moving figure with glowing blue eyes in the street below. Should she call out or remain silent? And on top of that, she had the zeds to deal with. Ghastly creatures that used to be human, carrying a virus that's spread through a constant hunger for flesh from the host, spreading through bites and scratches. It didn't exactly make it easy to prevent getting infected. Things could have been worse, though, Megan thought. She could've been left all alone to ponder over her thoughts and fear over the future. It'll only be within the time spent with the new group will she find out that everything's not as happy and welcoming as it had seemed. These people had a few secrets of their own, including the real reason they took Megan in. "Cold metal was the first thing that I felt against my skin. Then came the sensation of being strapped down by my wrists and ankles. Why was I strapped down? My eyes blinked open slowly, in a daze. I saw men and women in surgical gear running around wildly. The blare of alarm pierced the fog around my mind and I saw emergency lights flashing. What was happening? I saw a woman, her brown eyes wild with fear, undo the straps on my wrists and legs. My head fell to the side and I witnessed one man pounce on the other, then a squirt of blood shoot high into the air as the first man bit into the others neck. I couldn't move without serious concentration, and even then, I could only move a little. I was helpless as I lay on this metal table. I knew that I was going to die. I was an easy target. I closed my eyes, waiting for the inevibility of the man to attack me. Nothing came though, and when I cracked my eyes open, I was alone in the room. What? Just then, I heard a loud bang and I saw a man with a gun burst through the door, an infected woman, the one who had just untied me, leaping at him. They fell into the table I was on, and the entire thing flipped. I was tossed onto the ground, landing hard. My head cracked against the concrete and everything went black, and the last sound I heard were the man's screams."

They said that "Changing is part of LIFE.", at least that's what the CSD (Change and Save Department) used to say. They thought they created a "cure". A cure to save many people's lives from sickness, cancer, and all. Unfortunately... They were wrong. It was fine at first... However, their first test subject? It was for no good. Instead of a cure, they made a "virus". The virus is incurable for now. Many people protested against the CSD and the government. It changed.. but it was never saved... They said that once they bit you, in an hour the virus will spread throughout your body and kill you, then you'll be alive but not like you used to be. There are many survivors, but there are also many who have been turned into monsters. They call these monsters, "zombies". The CSD promised that they'll find a cure, but much-lost hope, lost hope for being alive, lost hope for survival. A 17 yrs. the old girl was in between that. Everything might sound and look horrible but she never lost hope for survival. "I'm running out of food.." she kept on talking to herself since there was no one but her. She saw a grocery store nearby so she checked it out if there were food, and fortunately, there was. She stuffed the food in her bag until she heard something. "Is someone there?" She asked, she hoped it wasn't what she thought about but there it was. The zombie's legs were twisted so it will have a hard time catching her. However, she never encountered that close. She stuffed the last food in her bag and ran. She ran to the girl's restroom. When she opened the door there were zombies! It almost caught her but fortunately, nothing happened to her. She ran back but there were more! "Please don't say this is how I'm going to die!" She said to herself. Is she going to die? Who will she meet? Will they survive this cruel world?? It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance. Many attempts were made to create a man-made version of synthetic dopamine and each time the outcome was a disaster. Their goal is to create new generations, immune to the virus. These are called Purebloods, the offsprings of those who find pure love, the only cure to save them from a violent death. Running out of time, the Experiment entered in its final stages. To minimize the threats, the Colonies have sent their best soldiers to oversee the trial and protect its key subjects. If only things were going according to plan, or better...stay hidden.
