Whenever you get wounded, your body heals into a scab, then into a scar. The memory of how the scar came to be might fade, but the tissue will always remain.
You get wounded again. But, it's on the scar this time. Naturally, it hurts worse because the tissue is sensitive. Before that scab has time to heal, you get sliced again. And again. And again. The pain is unbearable, so why do you keep letting it happen? He may be the alcohol to numb the pain, but he's also the knife that constantly cuts you.
