Rylee is a sassy teenage girl who loves to train with her father, Daniel. Daniel means the world to Rylee, so when she watches him be murdered, she wants revenge. The problem is, she doesn't know why he was killed or where to find the child that killed him. His murderer kept mentioning Daniel's crimes against the "Royal Court" and against the "Council" but Rylee has no idea what any of that means. On her quest to avenge her father's death, she will discover a world she never knew existed.

Zacharias is a vampire. He was changed by someone who has long since been disposed of, which left him without anyone to guide him through his new life. He was found by Killian, a death dealer for the Royal Court, and given a job as a death dealer himself. Zacharias is used for his special gift- an eye that can see anyone's memories just by touching them- to tell if people are lying to the Council.
