The allusion of life is a tree with branches, leaves, colors, long, short, broken, stiff, loose, Life is all of those words in a sense. Have you ever been on a road trip and see how many trees there are? Have you seen how many branches they have? How many different color trees are out there? With longer branches then other, some sticking up, down, side ways, diagonal etc. 

The root of a tree is the base of life. Either God or who ever you may believe in. It is the foundation of your world, in this sense the base in the ground is the tree foundation, it holds the tree together, makes sure it's stable and able to grow branches.
