It was dark, wherever I was. It smelled like burnt broccoli and socks for some reason. My head hurt, my ankle was twisted at an odd angle, and my stomach was killing me. The strong metallic taste in my mouth surely didn't help my nausea.

The floor I lay on was cold, freezing actually. It was damp and my clothes were soaked. I couldn't open my mouth, when I did it stung the flesh around my lips, I couldn't remember why it felt that way; I couldn't really remember anything to be honest.

My ears rang as heavy footsteps were heard in the distance. The echo of what sounded like boots came closer by the second. I looked around wildly, feeling anxious suddenly. I tried to call out to the intruder, but pain flared through my mouth.

I struggled to breathe as the flailing around caused shortage of breath, the incapability of breathing through my mouth made things harder. My nose suddenly hurt, ache flashing like a distant memory in my swollen nostrils.
