Fifteen-year-old Alanna is an only child who suffers from Schizophrenia. Her parents, kind-hearted Janice and stone-cold Marty are aware of her condition but are too fearful to tell her the truth since it has terribly escalated to the point where she becomes very violent and lashes out for the smallest things. Alanna confides in no one, except her chipper gay twin brother Johnny whom she's been close with her entire life. Anyway, many years later, it's the last month of summer and Alanna is constantly worried about starting High school for the first time in the fall. Assuming it'll be the first time she's separated from Johnny. Alanna will need closure to succeed in school, and being antisocial is a major struggle (aside from being schizophrenic). Janice and Marty get into hostile arguments about Alanna being frustrated about how they are going to take action on telling Alanna the truth that lies beneath her.
