After a traumatic event during Emery's freshman year of college, she has become a shut in introvert like she once was. Years later, Emery has found herself in the same state still not able to let go of the nightmares of her past. After being forced to go to one last college party, Emery finds herself in her worst case scenario for her second party. Feeling traumatized and broken, Emery escapes to an upstairs balcony where she falls asleep unknowingly. When she wakes up, a former best friend in her life is with her and tries to unwrap Emery's tough layers. When Emery tries to leave, she realizes that the door is locked from the inside and that her and her ex best friend is locked out on the balcony with no way to get down. With this, the two go through the night in a series of flashbacks to discover what happened to the two of them and the deceit that had taken place to break the two of them apart.

Isaac West is a reckless, dangerous, criminal. And if you were to ask him the same thing, his response would be the exact opposite. Ivory Ferrari is a spoilt, boring, prude. On the surface, you wouldn't believe these two have anything in common. They've lived completely different lives on opposite sides of the social spectrum, with Ivy in a secluded private estate, and Isaac drifting between drug-filled homes and the empty walls of a jail cell. But not everything is at it seems. Through a series of class debates, anxiety attacks, and bar fights, the two realise that there's more to the other than meets the eye, and they may just be more alike than either of them expected. They've both been through hell and back. They've both suffered at the hands of another, they both struggle to get through a single day, and most importantly, they both share the same wish-to avoid their darkness and live in the light.
