Ten years ago, a virus plagued the world. The virus, nicknamed "Z", infected people through direct blood contact. Most were infected by bites, scratches, and rarely from prolonged exposure. The virus has three stages. Stage one affects the host quickly, taking control of the brain, eliminating any form of humanity. The host feeds on flesh, and after mutation, human flesh is all it desires. The infected from the first stage are currently most common, mutating the infected person when someone gets infected from contact. Stage two happens after about a year to three years of being infected. The host begins to "transform", skin cells mutating and multiplying to form a more "strong" zombie. They are aggressive and fast, giving survivors a run for their money. These are nicknamed "buffs" after their most bulky and athletic appearance. The third and final stage is after a host has been infected for more than five years. These are zombies are very strong and can take a lot of damage. They're like tanks due to their huge size and strength, their nicknames derived from this.

Ryan Bennet is one of the last uninfected humans left in the world. As he wanders the empty and depressing wasteland of Greenflower City, he will encounter the harsh realities of the hellish world of nightmares.
