Amber Ross is happy with where her life is taking her - she has a 4.0 GPA, a loving boyfriend, an adoring younger sister, and a full-time scholarship for dancing at the college she has worked so hard to get into. But when she wakes up one morning and, upon looking in the mirror, finds that she has turned invisible to the world, that perfect world collapses. Amber is deemed missing by the police and is left watching the people she loves move on and grow. Her sister begins dating for the first time, her mom is sinking into a serious depression, and her dad is crumpling under the stress of work, all while she is silently observing from the shadows, whispering encouraging words that are swept away with the wind before anyone can hear them. She wasn't dead, but for some unknown reason, Amber had been turned into some kind of unseen and unheard ghost.

The following day, Amber visits her high school only to be crushed by the harsh reality. Amber's boyfriend had already moved on, muttering the same hollow words to his latest prey that he had said to her. Her loyal best friend had taken her title as captain of the dance team, spreading gossip that she had only ever befriended Amber so that one day she could become the dance team's captain.

To make matters more confusing, the school's most popular player can see Amber. With him seeming to be the only person able to see her, Amber and he must put aside their differences and work together in order to find balance to her world once more. Along the way, there's a great deal of pranks, revealed truths, and falling in love.
