The night was dark. The air was crisp. And the low rumble of thunder was the only sound other than the running of feet. Lightening flashed, lighting up a young woman running as fast as fast as she could on a sidewalk. Suddenly a crack appeared upon the sidewalk. She tripped over the folds of her ruined skirt and fell. Then there was a low rumble. As she saw her hunter her heart began to beat hysterically. Its long, blood red tongue licked its chops in a famished way. Then under the rumbles of the thunder and the flashes of the lightening…there was silence.

My stomach dropped to my shoes as we reached the door. It was closed, and at further inspection, locked. It probably locked upon closing, but I had no key or means of opening it. My plan had been thrown out the window, and now I was just as confused as the girl beside me. “What’s the matter?” she whispered. I dreaded answering her. My mouth opened and I began to form the words, but not before I was interrupted. A growl reverberated through the very air that surrounded us, a noise so deep and threatening that it paralyzed me for a few seconds. The girl next to me let out a squeal and I swung my head in the direction that it had come from. It was the light-less corner to our left, so pitch black that not even the walls were visible. Standing back up she backed up to her car, climbed in and drove away at speed, not caring about getting him help...feet ran towards the young man, and voices where heard talking to the emergency services. Hands felt his body all over, trying to offer comfort, but he could feel his life ebbing away.Complete
