The Secrets Bewteen Us

Held down by strict orders and a planned future, Cruise is a boy who just wants to escape. Raised by his father alone, he has no memory of his mother who died when he was a baby, and the questions he has are silenced by his fear of figuring out the truth about his heritage. In the meantime he settles with what little freedom he has between school, a job, and his father, and secretly sneaks off to the one place he has felt at home his whole life. The small acre of woods behind his house was his safe haven and his little shimmer of hope.
Venus's care free and no rules lifestyle is not at all the way she likes to live. She likes rules, everything planned out, and a sense of normality that she doesn't get from her Mother. Her mother, much too busy to care about her child's successful life, has Venus stuck between a rock and a hard place when she figures out how to tell her that she's just been accepted to UCLA into the field of Marine Biology. Surely she didn't think her mother would care, but the actual point to tell her had Venus's throat tighten to the point of no airway.
With no ready plan and a need for some time alone to sort out her thoughts and decisions, Venus goes wandering into the cool summer night for the smells and warmth that have surrounded her for her whole life. The small patch of woods she finds seems isolated enough and the moon shining off the lake was the perfect scene she needed to just sit back and relax and...think.
Cruise and Venus stumble into each other, both with a longing of some sort of freedom and someone to tell their deepest secrets to, and it turns out that both are willing to listen.
