Cinder in Snow

Diana is a desert girl. She was born in the desert, her parents were born in the desert, as were thier parents before them, and thier parents before them. So how is it that Diana's parents ended up in a wintry mining village in the mountains with thier newborn daughter and, even better of a question, how did they wind up dead? Twenty years after her parent's mysterious death, Diana ventures back to the deserts of Sorrel to figure just that out for herself. The only problem is that no one seems to want her to know.
