Kelli is a responsible teen who has three younger siblings and no parents in view. Her people view her as an outcast and a stranger. Her father's off at war, her mother is dead and her little brother Flinn is dying because he has no milk.  One day vikings come and slaughter her people and take her and her family as slaves and servants only because she said that she would train their army.

Sven is the chief of the viking clan that took Kelli off to their island. He is drawn to the beauty and the fiery heart of the red headed beauty. She's fiery, clever, mysterious, brave, stubborn and exotic. He want to get to know her, to get her to trust him, but she's fighting demons darker than anything he has ever seen, and she refuses to let him in. 

Can he trust her with his heart and his secrets? Can Kelli figure out what is haunting her new home? Can she learn to love the man that killed her people and took her family for slaves, or will she turn on her heart and her family to keep her sanity?
