Lane had never been very close to his father. He was never really around when Lane needed him but instead was replaced by the staff he hired to help take care of him. His mother had passed before he was five and ever since then he's been taken care of mainly by hired workers. Being on his own sounded great to Lane and he took the first chance he got to move out. By the time he had heard about his father's passing he had made a decent living for himself. He went to the reading of the will like any normal family member would.
