Riley was born and raised in a small town in Virginia, along with her little sister, Grace. When she was 17, the family decided to take a Christmas vacation, but a while after they got on the road, a drunk driver t-boned the car, killing her mother and sister.
Unable to deal with the terrible loss, Riley resorted to not speaking. It was her way of bottling up her emotions and not letting others in. Her father became an alcoholic, and was eventually put in jail for abusing her when she was 19. Riley decided to move out of Virginia and up to New York for a fresh start.
