"See that's the thing, Everest isn't a wolf.  He's human." My voice got quieter as I spoke, terrified of what my mother was going to say.
"Human?  But you're-"
"A Luna, I know mom.  It seems impossible but there's no way that I have it wrong.  The way he smelled and the way that I felt tonight, it was just indescribable.  It's like a smile was permanently etched onto my face he made me so happy," My mom pulled me into a hug and walked us over to my bed, "I've never heard of a human Alpha before, have you?"
I felt my mom shake her head, "No, never."

Jack's 18th birthday has arrived and she is not excited about celebrating it.  Her mom has thrown this huge party inviting everyone they have ever known - including all the eligible Alphas and Betas - to try and help Jack find her mate.  Jack could care less about parties and finds herself sneaking out to go to Caffeine.  Little does she know, she went to just the right place to find her mate, but he's not quite what she expected.  He's human, which isn't a bad thing, but it is a little odd considering Jack is expected to be the next Luna and no one has heard of a human Alpha.

p.s. Everest doesn't have unknown werewolf or Alpha blood running through his veins, and Jack isn't adopted or anything, she is a pure blooded Luna.  Just thought I'd put that out there before you start reading.

This is a short story that takes place in the middle of "Orphan Wolf". It can be read independently but will have spoilers if you intend to read "Orphan Wolf"... I of course would suggest you read it and pause at the point I marked to read "Markie" but the choice is yours. Story excerpt "Come on Ryan leave me alone!" A boy yells. Into the woods I find a pine tree. Perfect! Pine trees are great hiding places. The branches hide you visually and the smell masks your scent.
