Twenty year old Tori Duvenay, one of three pyromancers in the world, is being hunted by the Government. Having recently escaped theAcademy and their military-applications program, she heads to the best shot in the country for protection - Jack Slater, a gun-smith and occasional merc-for-hire notoriously known for hating those more 'talented' than the average Joe. Jack reluctantly takes her on but gets more than he bargained for when some acquaintances of his own show up looking for Tori. But how long can she and Jack outrun the people whose sole purpose is to bring her back to the Academy - especially when they're willing to go through anyone to get to her?
