Aura finds herself lost in the maze of London. With her life still in moving boxes in the corner of her new flat, a useless literature degree and less than twenty pounds in her bank account, she spends her days wandering around her new, low-paying job at a local bookstore and trying to combat a possible alcoholism. At night, she loses herself in sexual encounters with men who satisfy a fleeting desire. Her inability to find what she needs is dangerous and self-destructive. When she wakes up in Matt's bed - a former military man who has lived in a world of darkness since the accident that left him in a wheelchair -she grows closer, despite their differences. And in the shadows of the remnants that periodically torments both, they form an unspoken bond. But the lines between contentment and complacency blur. Things left hidden resurface to tear their world apart, and before they can repair the damage, the pain is summoned again. Faces, past and present, gather around them to weather the storm, but soon they are left with only the wounds.

Erotic horror turning into a psychological thriller turning into dark romance. ----- She came home for a weekend. She never quite made it back. Samantha is a habitual overachiever-brilliant, driven, and running on empty. A visit to her old best friend was supposed to be a reset. Instead, one night tears her life apart and leaves her one breath from becoming something she doesn't even believe in. The man who saves her has his own methods, a cure much worse than the disease. Cleansed with light, stripped of everything, Sam loses herself layer by agonizing layer, and wakes up in the Bright Room as a mystery: to her captor, and to herself. The only thing she's sure she's not is a victim. But reclaiming her life means navigating impossible terrain: a captor whose ruthless competence is matched only by how broken he is; a debt to him she can't balance against the trauma he caused; and a thing waking inside her that may be more dangerous than the infection itself. What develops between them is Beauty and the Beast, followed to its natural conclusion: two beasts, containing each other. For you if you love: women who can turn intelligence, trauma, and weakness into a weapon; moral ambiguity with no safe exits; psychological horror that earns its weight; dark romance that takes the darkness seriously; slow burn... in every sense of the word. Not for you if: you need your protagonists sympathetic, your villains clear, or your darkness decorative. This story does not look away when bad things happen.
