A 17-year-old girl named Rin, who finds herself living in a virtual reality world. Each day, she uses a tablet which controls the simulation to create a new, different, beautiful place for herself. As time progresses, the viewer comes to learn the truth behind her happy existence - The truth behind all of her loneliness.

Yet, years pass by after the Earth had ended and was completely demolished in a tragic crisis; Satoru Minori, a teenage boy who managed to survive and currently moving in a modernized spaceship to survive everyday's statistics using his knowledge.

Suddenly, due to the continuous travel. He stumbled a odd space pod that's floating in the middle of the space. Curiosity kicks him in and decided to check it out.

Little does he know, Satoru is not alone.

"Shelter: the Animation" is a U.S musician Porter Robinson's debut in the world of anime.

Made in collaboration with anime-streaming website 'Crunchyroll' and an animation studio called A-1 Pictures. The piece was created to accompany Robinson and French electronic musician Madeon's latest musical collaboration, "Shelter."
